06 Apr Georgia on My Mind
Whether it was about the state or a favorite lady, the great Ray Charles sang it best…
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind”
It doesn’t get much better than that…those sweeping strings…his swooning melodies. No matter what the interpretation, the state of Georgia is on our minds. The bustling capital, home to sports teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves and musical acts like Usher, Toni Braxton, T.I., Indigo Girls and The Black Crowes, Atlanta is the current hot spot for production and entertainment.
Having provided the musical backdrop for numerous projects in Georgia over the last few years, 411 has cultivated a strong connection with the local businesses and artists throughout the state. You may remember the Comcast Xfinity show “Black Tie and BBQ (#BTBBQ)” based in Athens, Georgia, which documents the behind-the-scenes adventures of Epting Events as they go from high-end Southern galas to backyard fetes. Lee Epting founded the company over forty years ago and brought his sons Ashley and Daniel along for the wild ride. Local businesses have been keeping 411 Music Group composers busy with original score and licensed music.
Georgia is home to 411 Music Group artists like Hip-Hop duo The Redland, catchy Pop/Rock producers Lights Follow, dreamy Indie Pop singer/songwriter Audrey Morgan and Pop artist GABE, who has toured with acts like Chris Brown and Trey Songz. Australian native, Shelley Segal, also performed at many public and private events in Atlanta while on a US tour last year.
The annual Atlanta Film Festival (in its forty-first year) just wrapped, which is one of only two-dozen Academy Award® qualifying festivals in the United States. #ATLFF is one of the longest-running festivals in the country and welcomes an audience of nearly 25,000 people to the city. The focus of the week is to highlight new independent, international, animated, documentary, and short films during the weeklong festivities. You can check out this year’s highlights here: ATLFF2017. 411’s Founder, Kristen Agee, attended last year’s festival and makes frequent visits back to The Peach State. Agee remarks, “The highlights for me at the 2016 Atlanta Film Fest were meeting the cast and crew behind ‘Driving with Selvi’, ‘The Founders’ and attending a Film Fatales event with powerhouse females from all over the world. Women producers and directors are rocking it in Georgia!” Directed and produced by Elisa Paloschi, @drivingwselvi is an incredible and gut-wrenching story told through the eyes of South India’s first female taxi driver, which sheds light on the continuous struggles millions of women in India face everyday. Written and Directed by Carrie Schrader, @TheFoundersFilm follows 13 amateur women golfers as they battled society, finances and sometimes each other to become professional sportswomen by creating the Ladies Professional Golf Association (The LPGA) in 1950.
The creative energy in Georgia is palpable. “…but, if I’m being honest,” Agee remarked, “50% of the reason I keep going back to Georgia is because of Henri’s Bakery over in Buckhead. I literally think about that place every morning and can’t get enough of it…maybe it’s more like 65%.” 😉 We have a feeling it’s more than Henri’s breakfast sandwiches that keep us coming back. “We’re excited to be doing more custom music in Georgia with our composing teams,” Agee said. “411 has been providing a great service to the local production companies and independent producers throughout the state.” As you know by now, 411 Music Group specializes in music licensing, publishing and administration for artists and composers and synchronization for film, TV and interactive media.
