The band formed after one-time bandmates Mezilis and Hanifl reconnected, after a previous stint in LA indie rock band Your Horrible Smile. The quartet is rounded out by bassist Harry Anthony Ostrem and drummer Ryan Brown – both veterans of countless stage, film and studio work who have recently collaborated with members of Guns N’ Roses, Rush and David Bowie.
Since their inception in summer of 2012, Black Belt KARATE has performed the Ink’N’Iron festival (Long Beach, CA) with Offspring, Iggy Pop, NOFX, as well as support for Truckfighters, Crobot, Valient Thorr, Lord Dying, Turbo Fruits, others. They are goddamn amazing.
The band released their 5-song debut EP “Volume 1” [Organic Audio / BFM Digital] on April 23, 2013 to critical acclaim, particularly in the UK. Since then they have followed up with a number of digital single releases, including a cover of Oingo Boingo’s “Wild Sex (in the Working Class), and plans / recording for their forthcoming 2015 release are currently underway.
Black Belt KARATE is produced, recorded and mixed by Jason Achilles Mezilis at Organic Audio Recorders, LA. All tracks are mastered by Mike Houge.
