Afalina Dreams is a indie-rock band with unusual history. More specifically, the mountainous Republic of Bashkortostan, 800 miles east of Moscow. Composer/keyboardist Timur Haba and lyricist/drummer Roman Zarudy are, respectively, an ophthalmologist and a maxillofacial surgeon. They’ve been playing together since 1990 – they were jazz-rockers and Latin enthusiasts at first; psychedelia didn’t come until much later – and made music together until 2005, when Zarudy returned fulltime to medicine. In 2016, lured by the narcotic sounds of Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Beck and Neon Indian, the duo reunited to record their debut EP.
