AEMCON 2017: Connecting Canada’s Electronic Artists

2017 AEMCON lineup including 411’s CEO Kristen Agee.

The 2017 Alberta Electronic Music Conference took place from November 16-19th, in Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 2016 by Isis Graham, Andrew Williams and Matt Lethbridge, the conference aims to inspire and elevate Canada’s music producers, DJs, and executives who contribute to the world of electronic music. Panels and workshops during the day featured industry veterans who happily shared their knowledge and experiences to up-and-comers. Featured performances by Foreign Beggars, Joe Nice, Vespers and Nomine to name a few, were booked every night during the conference at the iconic Alberta clubs The Hifi, Nite Owl, and Broken City.

On Sunday, November 19th, 411’s Founder, Kristen Agee, gave a keynote tackling how music, tech and entertainment are evolving. Agee discussed the impact of media shifts on music in film, TV, and interactive media and shared insight on strategies to overcome the biggest challenges creators face in today’s music market. The previous day, Agee was honored to be a part of the all-female panel ‘Finding and Creating Success in the Industry’. “This is the first of many all-female panels I plan to be a part of,” says Agee, whose company recently became a Certified Women’s Business Enterprise. “It’s so common to see a panel of all men but rare to have a panel of all women. It was such a proud moment for me to sit and talk with these female-powerhouses that I had to give a shout out to acknowledge how badass it was. Big thanks to Isis Graham who put the entire conference on. She has contributed to the Electronic Music market in Alberta in a big way.”

In only its sophomore year, AEMCON has brought attention to the Canadian electronic music scene that reaches far beyond the city limits of Calgary. We hope to see you there in 2018!
